Under the general supervision of the Bradley Hospital Clinical Dietitian, maintains current special diet li! st and cook’s list to communicate special diet orders and nutrition plans to food service staff. Writes and continuously updates menus for patients requiring special tray diet accommodations. Maintains manual of special tray diets. Reviews medical records of Bradley pediatric patients who meet admission criteria for nutrition risk and relays pertinent nutrition and medical histories to Clinical Dietitian. Visits patients, family members and, as appropriate, patient care partners to obtain diet related information, answer questions about diet related information, answer questions about diet prescriptions, and give diet counseling about dietary restrictions. Assists with patient nutrition education activities, including unit projects, dining room bulletin boards, and meal coaching. Assists with nutrition related in-services to departmental and hospital staff. Is highly visible in dining room at mealtimes to assess food acceptance, identify nutrition problems, and assist wit! h problem solving. Completes calorie counts and relays informa! tion to Clinical Dietitian.

Qualifications :
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Food and Nutrition is required or equivalent preparatory program.
Thorough understanding of the application of principles of nutrition to human physiology and disease states. A thorough knowledge of the nutritional values of food and food groups.
Analytical ability to identify overt and potential nutritional problems. The ability to develop nutritional care plans for review by the Clinical Dietitian.
Oral and written communication skills necessary to deal effectively with patients, families and hospital personnel in communicating dietetic care plans, etc. Leadership skills to effectively coordinate and evaluate activities of subordinate work group.
Demonstrate knowledge, skills and compassion necessary to provide care to pediatric patients with the consideration of psychiatric diagnoses, developmental disabilities, and cultural patterns in each! step of the care process.
Basic computer skills with ability to utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Rhode Island certification in Food Safety Management required within first 6 months of employment if not currently certified.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:
One to two years experience as a diet technician in a healthcare facility is required. Experience with pediatric and/or psychiatric patients is highly desirable.
