Develop and implement informational, emotionally supportive, and inspirational March o! f Dimes (MOD) programs to families of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) babies and to NICU staff within the NICU setting. Identify areas of program needs for the purpose of developing and implementing programs responsive to those needs. This is accomplished through researching the NICU setting, developing supportive relationships with NICU families and staff, and collaborating with chapter and NICU staff. This is a part-time (28 hours) position; some evening or weekend work may be required. The position is primarily housed in the NICU at Women & Infants Hospital, but some time at the March of Dimes office in Providence, RI, will be required.

Position Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the selection, development and implementation of 2-3 NICU Family Support program modules. Participate in budget tracking as to how funds are used. Comply with Foundation and hospital policies for clearance procedures on all program materials development.
  • Coordina! te the development and lead the implementation and evaluation ! of Direct Service Activities, such as Parent Hour, Sibling Education Group, Scrapbooking Nights, and Photo Keepsake Program.
  • Interview, screen, and recruit volunteers to NICU Parent-Professional Advisory Committee and to Direct Service Volunteer Base and insure their compliance with various requirements, such as criminal checks, hospital volunteer screening, etc.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding personal health information and other sensitive information about parents and families, in accordance with applicable hospital policies and procedures.
  • Maintain active communication, including updates and information on NICU Family Support, with NICU/hospital staff, NICU families, March of Dimes chapter staff and March of Dimes National Office staff.
  • Maintain close and frequent working relationships with MOD staff and volunteers in state, regional and national offices regarding program implementation.
  • Coordinate, supervise and ma! intain active communications with volunteers.
  • Coordinate the assembly, distribution and evaluation of NICU Family Support materials.
  • Organize and facilitate NICU Parent-Professional Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Comply with Foundation and hospital required screening protocols, such as criminal background check, MOD and hospital orientation and screening (TB titers, etc.).
  • Participate in MOD fundraising, media and publicity efforts and events.
  • Coordinate and conduct a comprehensive NICU Needs Assessment with tools and guidance provided by National.
  • Complete reports for state, regional and national offices.
Qualifications Required

  • A Master’s Degree in Social Work, Education, Public Health or related field; or License to practice as a registered neonatal nurse or a Bachelor’s Degree plus 1 â€" 3 years progressive experience delivering services to parents and families in a NICU or other inpati! ent pediatric or similar setting.
  • Basic knowledge of the emoti! onal and medical issues inherent in a NICU hospitalization.
  • Demonstrated ability to easily and sensitively engage parents, families and staff in order to assist in the smooth welcoming of MOD programs, services and materials.
  • Experience with program development and volunteer management.
  • A dynamic, energetic, compassionate individual who enjoys working, providing support to and collaborating with many different types of individuals, families, disciplines, medical personnel and organizations in an intensive care setting.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and speak to families and staff at the NICU bedside.
  • Flexibility to work some evening and/or weekend hours.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Must successfully complete a credit and criminal background check, which includes a check of the state sex offender registry.
