SUMMARY OF MAIN DUTIES: The Substitute Registered Nurse maintains the health and wel! l being of the students during school hours by planning and implementing necessary nursing procedures. This is not a School Nurse Teacher position).JOB DUTIES: •Administers medications and performs nursing procedures ordered by the physician to be given during school hours. These include but are not limited to G-Tube feedings, catheterizations, respiratory treatments, dialysis, dressing changes, wound care, tracheotomy care and suctioning.•Performs ongoing health status evaluations and review of medications and treatments in order to identify health needs and potential problems.•Documents all nursing care and changes in a child’s health status.•Communicates timely updates to parents, teachers, and therapy staff, regarding health concerns or changes in the health status of t! he child.• Assists the Nursing Supervisor in conducting nurs! ing assessments and developing nursing care plans, which reflect the child’s needs and the unique nature of each child’s condition(s).•Administers the Hepatitis-B Vaccine series for eligible new employees.•Assists the Nursing Supervisor in health promotion, through staff and student education regarding effective health and safety practices. •Assists with the evacuation of students and clients during fire drills or other emergencies.•Performs other duties as directed or required.Non-essential Functions: •Support private duty nurses, as appropriate, who come to school with medically fragile and technically dependent children.•Assists with agency coordination of the infection control and other preventative health policies, procedures and measures, through participation on the Health & Safety Committee.•Assist student nurses who come to our facility to work with our children as part of their training.PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND/OR EDUCATIO! N NEEDED: A.SKILLS•Maintains current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) or CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) certification.•Competent and independent in technical-clinical nursing skills.•Possess strong physical assessment skills.•Must be flexible and organized.B.PROFESSIONAL, LEGAL and EDUCATIONAL STANDARDS•Licensed Registered Nurse in Rhode Island.•B.S.N. from an accredited college or university preferred, or a Licensed Registered Nurse enrolled in B.S.N.

program with at least 5 years of pediatric experience•Use and disclose PHI only as authorized, as necessary to carry out job duties.•Completion of privacy and security training; report suspected violations including those of a business associate or contractor.C.EXPERIENCE•Preference is given to Registered Nurses with an extensive pediatric background, and very recent employment in a clinical setting.•School nursing experience helpful but not required.•Broad-based experience working with c! hildren and adolescents with disabilities, within multiple clinical set! tings.D.TRAINING AND EDUCATION•Preference is given to Registered Nurses with an extensive pediatric background, and very recent employment in a clinical setting.•Broad-based experience working with children and adolescents with disabilities, within multiple clinical settings.E.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: •Be able to sit, stand and walk continuously during the workday.•Walk: 67-100% of the time•Sit, stand, bend/stoop, squat, kneel, grip with whole hand- right, left & both hands, finger pinch items-right, left and both hands, use hand power tools, use a computer, transfer patients: 34-66% of the time.•Climb stairs, reach above shoulder level-both right, left & both arms: 1-33% of the time•Assist in lifting and carrying students as well as transfers from wheelchairs to equipment.•Push/pull: 1 time per hour•Lift/carry 1-10 lbs: 2-12 times per hour
