Under the direction of the Senior Therapist, Clinical Specialist, Clinical Coordinator or Clinical Manager! , Occupational Therapist completes comprehensive examinations to determine body structure and function level impairments and resultant activity limitations and participation restrictions.

Based on the findings from the examination, the therapist completes an evaluation and establishes diagnosis, prognosis, and an individualized plan of care.

The Occupational Therapist implements treatment interventions defined by the plan and performs ongoing evaluation throughout the duration of the episode of care.

Demonstrates age-specific competency in caring for individuals across the age-span which may include neonates/infants, pediatrics, adult and geriatric populations.

Uses patient/caregiver centered focus and applying evidence-based practice in the clinical care to individuals from diverse language, ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds as well as to individuals who have multiple disabilities.

The Occupational Therapist works ! with the patient to achieve the highest possible level of func! tion to allow participation across community based settings. Provisions of service are in accordance with the state laws and regulations and standards as set forth by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).

Consistently applies the corporate values of respect, honesty and fairness and the constant pursuit of excellence in improving the health status of the people within the region through the provision of customer-friendly, geographically accessible and high-value services within the environment of a comprehensive integrated academic health system. Exhibits effective and professional verbal and non-verbal communication skills in accordance with Rhode Island Hospital ’s Customer Service standards.

Communicates clearly, respectfully, and honestly with patients, families, caregivers, and colleagues.! Works collaboratively within the academic medical center and more broadly with community-based healthcare providers. Proactively provides written and verbal communication and recommendations to physicians, nurses, case managers, and other personnel involved in the patient’s care.

Adjusts communication and response to the level of understanding of the listener.

Consistently applies the basic concepts of evidence-based practice to all aspects of clinical care. Completes all necessary clinical competencies as assigned by program specific leadership. Seeks additional knowledge when necessary to assure safe and effective treatment of all patients and to provide family/caregivers with clear and accurate education.

Performs examinations an evaluation of patients, establishes diagnosis, prognosis, and individualized plan of care, implements treatment intervention based on the plan of care and observes precautions, indications and contraindications for ! all treatment procedures. Regularly evaluates patient’s progress and ! revises goals and plan of care accordingly. Clinical approach emphasizes patient/caregiver education that includes thorough and effective discharge planning.

Completes accurate and timely clinical documentation and charges in full compliance with hospital, professional, and regulatory standards that demonstrates eligibility/medical necessity of services.

Measures outcomes of treatment and conducts continuous evaluations of the effectiveness of practices and programs to improve and maintain quality of services. Maintains documentation of Performance Improvement/Quality practices and programs.

Provides occupational therapy consultation to physicians, rehabilitation personnel and other professionals to direct care and coordinate patient’s plan of care.

Demonstrates ability to flex schedule based on program and/or patient, family, caregiver need. Determine priorities according to patient care needs. Meets productivity standards as determine! d by the department. Engages in program specific quality improvement initiatives striving for professional excellence. Enhances professional expertise through ongoing appropriate educational activities. Participates in weekend and holiday rotation per program requirements. Practices in a manner that supports and promotes teamwork.

Provides training and instruction to appropriate members of the department related to clinical area of focus or interest. Provides education to other hospital departments/personnel, students of all levels, and outside agencies/schools.

Meets job requirements under challenging situations and time constraints.

Fulfills the RIH/HCH service pledge to transform the patient experience by applying the principles of communication, care and compassion into practice.

Completes mandatory departmental and hospital trainings as assigned by Clinical Manager.

Participates in community-based and professional events. Se! eks educational opportunities to improve own performance.

Demo! nstrates behavior which follows the AOTA Code of Ethics in all aspects of clinical work and staff relationships.

Qualifications :
REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy; Master of Science or Doctor of Occupational Therapy preferred.

State License issued by Rhode Island Department of Health.

Clinical experience in program specific settings preferred. Other relevant experience considered.
