We are seeking a director of Enterprise Architecture to join the Starbucks Technology leadership team and be part of the Starbucks Architecture community. The director of Enterprise Architecture will lead and mature the architecture practice accountable for shaping the next generation of systems supporting our critical corporate products & services: Digital Commerce, mobile application, Marketing technology, and Retail technology.


In this critical role, you will support, scale and empower your team, who are the go-to experts, who deliver innovative architecture solutions. The architecture team develops long-range technology architecture roadmaps in anticipation of future business needs while maximizing long-term technology investments. Additionally, you will regularly advise senior leaders on strategic technology acquisitions and implementations, and will be asked to provide direction and focus to M&A teams by defining and negotiating architecture options.

Key Responsibilities


Leadership

  • Demonstrate accountability, make timely and appropriate decisions on programs and multiple domains
  • Take calculated risks and challenge the status quo on programs and across multiple domains
  • Develop partnerships and influence others both directly and indirectly
  • Motivate and collaborate to create an inclusive team environment and enable team-based fulfillment of objectives
  • Provide coaching, direction and support to team members in order to achieve partners, business and customer results
  • Establish strong relationships and build effective partnerships with growing and evolving technology teams across international markets
  • Demonstrate a bias for action and apply iterative thinking and approach

Team Management

  • Coach, mentor, and support team members in order to achieve outstanding business outcomes while ensuring continuous career and personal growth
  • Develop strategic, operational, and budgetary plans for the architecture organization
  • Support architecture vice president in promoting a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork

Program Management

  • Lead, coordinate, and facilitate cross-functional team members (business and technology) in activities related to architecture as part of the strategic program
  • Work with Technology PMO, business, and technology to ensure work necessary to achieve strategic programs are included in the Starbucks Technology portfolio and prioritized appropriately
  • Provide input to shape programs across multiple domains and the enterprise to introduce strategic technology transformation and change including assisting on development of business case

Doman Proficiency

  • Demonstrate functional and business knowledge across multiple domains and enterprise context
  • Advise functional and technology leaders within domains in defining priorities, key initiatives, and organizational alignment to support making informed business decisions
  • Evaluate industry and technology trends, determine applicability to Starbucks and translate into Starbucks specific strategies, plans, models, principles, architectures and design
  • Continuous development of domain knowledge in both the industry and the Starbucks enterprise

Architecture Practice Leadership

  • Acts as chief architect for the assigned business and technical domains
  • Develop concepts across multiple domains and the enterprise from strategic concepts to detailed logical views
  • Utilizes perception, creativity, transformational ideas, system thinking, and organizing techniques in your work
  • Collaborate with architects to develop the business case ('why'), conceptual model and vision ('what') , logical model and other artifacts ('How') for multiple domains and the enterprise by creating alignment and capturing context by considering multiple factors including points of value, risk, opportunities, conditions, themes, and gaps
  • Lead maturity in the architecture practice competencies; process, roles and responsibilities, architecture governance models, and architecture deliverables

Concept and Business Case Development

  • Partners with business capability and technology service owners across domains and the enterprise to develop a concept from ideation through business case
  • Assesses the value and impact of concepts and emerging technologies by leading opportunity assessments and proofs-of-concept thru partnership with stakeholders across multiple domains and enterprise programs
  • Assist in development of proposals for enterprise strategy development based on environmental analysis, opportunity identification, value cases, and risk

Influence and evangelize

  • Build and maintains influential working relationships at all levels and across the enterprise
  • Excellent presentation skills for internal and external audiences at the 'C' level
  • Communicate with various stakeholders, and to evangelize the IT and business architecture visions
  • Continuously seeks to understand and create value from the customers perspective
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adapts approach and interpersonal style to best meet the needs of the individual customer

  • Overall IT experience – 15 years
  • Managing engineering team experience-5 years
  • Variety of technical environments, Systems/ application development experience – 10 years
  • Managing architecture team experience – 7 years
  • Architecture experience – 10 years
  • Functional and systems modeling – 10 years
  • Direct and indirect people development – 10 years
  • Business process and system design – 10 years
  • Strategic planning – 4 years
  • Financial analysis & business planning – 7 years
  • Running technology proof-of-concepts – 10 years
  • Project or Program management experience – 5 years
  • Team and Talent Management – 7 years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Digital commerce experience with a global retailer or quick serve restaurant – 10 years
  • Retail technology experience with a global retailer or quick serve restaurant – 10 years
  • Marketing technology experience – 5 years
  • Mobile app development experience-3 years
  • Infrastructure as Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as Service (SaaS) experience – 5 years
