Description: Rhode Island Hospital and its Hasbro Children's Hospital is presently looking of Visual Arts Instructor NES right now, this occupation will be designated in Rhode Island. The Visual Arts Instructor NES working in the Lifespan Arts & Healing Unit under the general supervision of the Lifespan Arts Coordinator, the art instructor performs a wide variety of duties associated with the arts program related to the needs of pediatric and adult patients during hospitalization and outpatient visits. Plans and implements appropriate art lessons to meet the needs of both elementary and high school level patients as well as adult patients. Ensures inclusion of an Art History component with each lesson as stipulated in the mission of the Museum on Rounds, Art on Rounds and Art While You Wait Hospital Art Program.

Qualifications

:

Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, Art Therapy or in related arts field required.

Master's Degree in Fine Arts, Art Education or Art Therapy preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of two years teaching experience in the art field, at either elementary or high school level in public or private school, or related teaching experience in art field in a community setting.

An additional three to six months on-the-job experience to become familiar with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

Organizational skills to ensure proper planning and implementation of hospital based art programs.

Thorough knowledge of art materials and techniques of elementary and high school students, including those with special needs.

Good knowledge of History of Art and past and present lives of famous artists.

High level of interpersonal skills to interact with pediatric patients, families, adult patients and professionals within and outside the hospital, as well as all levels of hospital management.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of human developmental stages, aging process and cultural patterns in each step of the care
